I am from the Netherlands, but live in Greece with my Dutch partner and son of 7 years old. After high school (Montessori) I travelled for a year through Asia in the '80s when it was still strange and very exceptional to go to Thailand and Indonesia. I studied political science and mass communication on the university of Amsterdam and got my degree in 1991. However I was not so happy joining the 'rat race'. After several commercial jobs for advertising company's, and being at the start of Internet getting commercial, I decided I liked more to teach yoga. In 1996 I moved to Greece, all by myself, no (Greek) man involved. I started the first yoga school on the Greek island Paros. But in 1998 I got a very serious car accident, which should have costed me my live, if the doctors were to believed. Since then my live is devided in before and after my accident. But, I recovered myself extremely well, with the help of yoga. And in that proces I became expert by experience in back problems and how yoga can help with that. Yoga saved my live. In 2003 I went back to the Netherlands, because of a new operation planned on my spine. But thanks to new bone growing, which (again) no doctor could understand, thanks to yoga, the operation was cancelled. I worked in my mothers yoga school in Amsterdam. I met my partner Peter during that time in the Netherlands and got pregnant soon, also something the doctors said was probably not possible. At the age of 41 I became a mother, a miracle. And when our son Thomas was one-and-a-half year old, (before the crisis) we moved with the three of us back to Greece again. Despite the crisis, we are still very happy to live here. Where there is still space and nature, fresh air, our own garden, close to the sea, and a lot of sunshine. By bringing yoga clients during summer, who eat and sleep somewhere in our village Aliki, I also want to help the people of Aliki.
I started practicing yoga 40 years ago, at the age of 7, together with my mother, who was trained by mr. B.K.S. Iyengar personally. I teach for 20 years now.
I teach Iyengar style yoga, but with a softer approach. Suitable for every body and all ages (from 7 and up). I use props to adapt poses if necessary.
Alignment, breathing, grounding, stretching and relaxing are the key words for my yoga classes. No chanting or mystification. Open atmosphere with space for questions. Small groups of maximum 12 persons, so I can correct everybody individual. Also for teachers who want to learn more about 'hands-on-adjustment' and back pain problems.
I Practise Yoga at
My own yoga school on the Greek island Paros, in the small authentic fishing village Aliki
I organise about 8 yoga holidays of 1 week during summer, so from april - october. Next to that I teach locals during winter and you can come any time of the year to join and take private classes.
